World Heritage Middle Rhine
»He bursts through and the cliffs give way and look down on him with wonder and awe«, Heinrich von Kleist wrote on his travel along the Rhine.
Grapevine cultivated on terraces nestle up against the cliffs on both sides of the river. Wildlife developed in unique interaction with men‘s intervention in nature, building the romantic setting for castles, palaces and landmarks. Until today the region is affected by viniculture, shipping and tourism. In June 2002 the UNESCO honoured this unique bond of natural and cultural elements as being a »lingering cultural landscape« and named the Middle Rhine World Heritage.
A landscape firing your imagination.
